 తెలుగు సాహిత్య ప్రపంచానికి విమర్శకుడుగా పరిచయమైన చేకూరి రామారావు ప్రధానంగా శిక్షణ పొంది మౌలిక పరిశోధన చేసింది భాషాశాస్త్రంలో. ఆధునిక భాషాశాస్త్ర రంగంలో కొత్త విప్లవాన్ని తీసుకువచ్చిన నామ్ చామ్‌స్కీ పరివర్తన సిద్ధాంతాన్ని ఉపయోగించి తెలుగు వాక్యాన్ని విశ్లేషించి కొత్త ఒరవడికి ఆద్యుడయ్యాడు. ఆయన అమెరికాలోని కోర్నెల్ యూనివర్సిటీ నుండి ఎం. ఏ., పి.హెచ్.డి. డిగ్రీలు పొందాడు. ఆంధ్రజ్యోతి ఆదివారంలో చేరాతలు అన్న శీర్షిక నిర్వహించడం ద్వారా తెలుగు సాహిత్య విమర్శరంగంలోకి సుడిగాలిలా దూసుకువచ్చి, సంచలనం సృష్టించాడు - ఒక కొత్త విమర్శ ధోరణిని ప్రవేశ పెట్టాడు. ఈయన రాసిన స్మృతికిణాంకమనే వ్యాససంపుటికి 2002లో భారత ప్రభుత్వము కేంద్ర సాహిత్య అకాడమీ అవార్డును బహూకరించింది.

Chekuri Rama Rao : Chekuri Rama Rao was born on October, 1 1934 in illindalapadu village near Madhira, Khamma District. Is currently Prof Emeritus,and UGC-fellow.He is a renowned Literary Critic.Given below are a few passages from his views expressed on the state of Telugu Classical Literature: "The utter neglect of one's own ancient culture, and more glaringly, of one's own classical literature, is rampant amongst the Telugu-speaking people." "Speak to any of the recent breed of 'modern' poets- they are incapable of appreciating the nuances of a poem, its rhythm, its rhyme and alliteration. They cannot diferenciate between meters in a poem -geeta-padyam or kanda-padyam. Of course, it is not a crime, if one is unaware of such literary nuances or intricacies. However , to think that there is no need for learning those nuances and technicalities is certainly , gross rudeness and a case of bad-judgement." "The radicals and progressives have failed to recognise that it is possible to keep alive classical literature , while opposing the decadent values they stood for, by appreciating that the belief-systems espoused by the classical literature are not absolute truths but mere fantasy- creations of the human mind." "Imperialism - Colonialism are the opiates that have drowned our belief-systems.They would not spare any culture or values. Let us hence salvage what ever good is left of our ancient culture." "Classical literature is the priceless gift of our forefathers.That wealth can be put to good use even in this day and time to serve us.Discarding Classical literature as being of no use to us reflects our own worthlessness and utter incapacity and incapability to make use of it.
