Noted Telugu poet and social reformer ‘Kaviraju' Tripuraneni Ramaswamy Choudary's 125th birth anniversary will be celebrated throughout the year all over the State and outside, including in the US and the UK.
Announcing this at a media conference here on Saturday, former Rajya Sabha member, Hindi professor in Andhra University and chairman of Jan Sikshan Sansthan Yarlagadda Lakshmi Prasad said that a statue of the poet would be unveiled in Tenali on Sunday. “I along with film actor Saichand, who is the grandson of Kaviraju and son of noted novelist Gopichand, will be touring the USA and the UK to attend various meetings being organised there as part of Kaviraju's birth anniversary. In the State, many meetings will be held, and at Visakhapatnam, we plan to release some volumes of his works,” he said. The former MP said the duo would be attending meetings in New York, Washington, Detroit, St. Lewis, and Chicago in the US and in London and Birmingham in the UK.
“Kaviraju was born in an agricultural family, went abroad to study Bar-at-Law and returned to the country. Instead of taking up the lucrative profession of a lawyer, he dedicated his life to serve the society and literature,” he said.
A disciple of Venkata Sastry of the Tirupati Venkata Kavulu duo, he earned the title of ‘Kaviraju', recommended by ‘Viswadata' ‘Desoddharaka' Kasinadhuni Nageswara Rao Pantulu during the Andhra Mahasabha conference held in Vijayawada in 1929, Prof. Lakshmi Prasad said. Among his patriotic songs, “Veeragandham Techchinaramu Veerudevvado Telpudee, Poosipodumu Medanu Vaithumu Pooladandalu Bhakthito..,” is very popular.
